Wright found guilty of obstruction of justice

RALEIGH -- Former North Carolina Rep. Thomas Wright has been found guilty of felony obstruction of justice. Wake County jurors deliberated for about 2 1/2 hours over two days before reaching the verdict Wednesday. The Wilmington Democrat was accused of preventing election officials from carrying out their duties as they investigated his failure to report $150,000 in campaign contributions. Wright's attorney said his client wasn't guilty of such a crime, acknowledging only that Wright made mistakes on his campaign disclosure forms. Wright was sentenced to six- to eight-months in prison, but Judge Donald Stephens ordered the term be served concurrently with an existing six- to eight-year prison sentence for fraud. At what cost?

I realize he was convicted for his crime, but at what cost to the taxpayers? Was it worth it for a sentence that any prosecutor would know wouldn't mean anything to the longer sentence he is already serving? All it did was allow him to wear his nice suits, sit in a nice courtroom, and rub his face in front of all the taxpayers keeping him incarcerated. It would have been better to keep him in his little hole, where he belongs. It wouldn't shock me to see him appeal, so he can get more easy time.

Well, justice has been served here. i am proud of the jury for their verdict. now....there are others who need to be brought to justice that have been lying about their campaign finance reports too. The sboe were probably forced to prosecute Wright. That department needs to be cleaned up too!

i don't think so because they used mr wright as a scape goat. if they are going to sentence him to jail time they need to get the rest of those low lifes that's spending the tax payer's money for their own personal use. put all of them in the same cell with mr.wright

I disagree. "Six- to eight-months in prison, but Judge Donald Stephens ordered the term be served concurrently". Folks, you need to remember this Judge's name. Wright didn't even get spanked for this...he was let off. We need to get Judge's off the bench who for what ever reason let crooks, murderers, rapists, child molesters or who ever off. Stephens needs to go!
