Wright's attorneys criticize special House session

READ MORE: Wright's attorneys criticize special House session
RALEIGH -- The clock is winding down for state lawmakers. One week from today a special House session will decide whether or not to expel Rep. Thomas Wright. But as lawmakers create the rules, Wright's lawyers are criticizing their methods. As lawmakers work feverishly on rules for a special House session, lawyers for Wright call the outcome a foregone conclusion. Rep. Wright's attorney Irving Joyner said, "We all know the results of the special session. The speaker would not have called a special session unless he had already talked with a significant number of legislators to know what they were going to do at the conclusion of it." Bill Holmes is a spokesperson for House Speaker Joe Hackney. He said the house clerk and legislative research lawyers are working together to develop a fair and balanced procedure for the special session. He says legislators are making every attempt to protect the representative's right to due process. But Wright's lawyers say by making up the rules as they go along, the Wilmington democrat's right's are being violated. "It is an easy thing to come up with rules that you are going to follow prior to the development of these sessions, of the investigation, of the hearing, and that way people will know what the rules are," Joyner said. "Here, that hasn't been done, it hasn't been thought out. And in doing it that way, Rep. Wright's rights have been trampled upon by a branch of state government in violation of the constitution. There are no due process protections for him." The special session, scheduled for next Thursday, will look much like a typical session at the General Assembly. Lawmakers will debate and voice their opinion about Rep. Wright and the charges he's facing. But since this is the first example in modern times of lawmakers moving toward expelling one of their own, it's still unclear how many votes will be needed in order to remove Wright from office. Legislators will also decide whether to allow Wright's lawyers to advise him during the special session. His lawyer says if given the opportunity, Wright will likely not speak during the session.

MR. WRIGHT WON'T HAVE THAT

MR. WRIGHT WON'T HAVE THAT LITTLE "SMIRK" ON HIS FACE WHEN HE IS DRESSED IN ORANGE IN THE STATE PEN!! OH BY THE WAY THEY DON'T CARE WHAT COLOR YOU ARE THERE.

Wright is wrong

How long will this go on? His attorney is already said they will appeal the decision made - and it hasn't been made yet. He thinks it is a foregone conclusion - but it isn't made yet. He thinks it is a race issue - but if that is his best defense, he will lose. This isn't about black, white, or whatever. It is about a trusted public servant that has admitted to wrongdoing, but is not willing to step aside out of arrogance. Thomas Wright has shown nothing but arrogance since this all began. If he cared for the people he was serving, he would admit what he has done, and then he would step aside for the public good. All he has shown to me, and that is my opinion, that he is for himself and no one else.

then step down

If chuckles knows what the outcome will be, why won't he just step down and save the taxpayers that expense?

Reality Check on Mr. Wrong

It's obvious. The 'man' has a chip on his shoulder the size of Kansas and such a decision to do the Wright Thang would require that he possess a conscience, some class, and consideration for his fellow man. Doubtful, isn't it? At least Eliot Spitzer came to a reasonable decision. But Tommy Boy makes me sick.

Lets not judge.

Lets wait and see, maybe he did nothing wrong. Would all of you be as quick to judge him if he were WHITE.

Remeber Jim Black?

Race has nothing to do with it as you would like to "assume". It's about right and wrong. You can't hide behind race every time things go wrong, Wright?

Mr. Wrong again and again

Would you AVOID commenting against him because he is black?

The race card your playing

The race card your playing has been PLAYED OUT so give it up

Hell yes...

I'd be just as quick to judge...white, black or covered in ink...what additional evidence is needed? The man has admitted that he took campaign contributions as well as "grants" from corporations as "sweat equity" for his fraudulent foundation. What will be interesting to read is how many people he's going to attempt to take down with him.

yes

Yes we would. Go back and look at Jim Black and all the people that called for him to step down. Nice try there but race has no merit in this argument.

Here we go again, bringing

Here we go again, bringing the race card into this. This has nothing to do with the color of his skin. Wright is a crook and stole from his fellow man. He just needs to step down and quit wasting time and more money

if he was an honest person

if he was an honest person in the first place then he would not be in this trouble like he is. he is out to screw the taxpayer and political contributers out of everything that he possible can.
