WWAY NewsChannel 3 announces new anchor line-up for new year

READ MORE: Hello from Cacky Catlett

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- We have a great New Year's resolution already: start the year off with a bang!

We're excited to announce that Chris Phillips and Cacky Catlett have been named as our new co-anchors for WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5, 6 & 11 starting Monday, January 3, 2011.

What's not so exciting to share with you is that Greg Privett is leaving us. Greg is originally from Alabama and owns a house there, and therein lies the problem. He owns it now, meaning he hasn't been able to sell it since moving to Wilmington. We understand it's very tough to own or rent in two places at the same time, so Greg has decided to move back to 'Bama.

"I've loved living in the Cape Fear," Greg said. "It's a great place with awesome people, and WWAY has great professionals with incredible talent -- the best you'll find anywhere! I've made a lot of friends here. Like a lot of other folks, though, I've had to make a tough financial choice. The recession and housing market have made it hard to sell my house back in Alabama, so I'm going back home. Thankfully, I'm blessed to have opportunities in financial services. Plus, now, it'll be easy to pick a vacation destination!"

When I moved here from Florida two years ago I was delighted with WWAY's anchors, Ann McAdams and Steve Rondinaro. Seems to me the station has shot itself in the foot by losing them and Megan Torjesson, but at least Chris Phillips is an improvement over the 'Bama man.

Chris Phillips

It is wonderful to have Chris Phillips back on TV3! (I admit I missed him so much that I turned to TV 6 and Jon Evans.) Chris's voice, pleasing personality, good looks, and especially his improv are such a welcome addition to the news lineup. I always enjoyed him as the meterologist, but having him as the anchor is great! Good job, WWAY!

I agree with Beth (I did the same thing). Glad to see you are back Chris...maybe they will get Steve R. back too.

Chris Phillips

I'm thrilled that Chris Phillips will have a major role on WWAY. He has personality plus and watching him anchor is a pleasure--he does a great job, just as he did as chief meteorologist. I missed him when he was gone and was happy when he returned. He's a true professional.

Congratulations, Chris!

Gregg Privett

I hope you said a nice farwell to Gregg on his last broadcast....

Chris Phillips
