YMCA Triathlon expected to draw thousands

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH -- The 29th annual YMCA triathlon is expected to draw thousands of people to the Wrightsville Beach area Saturday. More than 1,300 triathletes are registered. They'll swim almost a mile of Banks Channel, bike 12 miles by Airlie Gardens to Oleander back to Eastwood and then run the Wrightsville Beach loop. The YMCA expects more than 15,000 spectators along the race route. The event director says volunteers are still needed. YMCA event director Gray Fore said, "I could use help body-marking the racers. They can get in a kayak or surf board in the water and help the swimmers there's plenty to do." To volunteer contact the YMCA at 251-9622. Also, expect considerable delays Saturday morning if you're going to Wrightsville Beach.
