BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Duke and national championship have rarely come up in the same sentence this postseason. Instead of being a favorite to reach the Final Four, there's talk of an early exit in the NCAA tournament.
The Blue Devils are a sixth seed heading into the West Regional, where they'll face 11th seed Virginia Commonwealth tomorrow evening in Buffalo. It is Duke's lowest seeding since they went into the NCAA tournament as the eight-seeded team in 1996.
It will be Duke's first game since North Carolina State bounced them from the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in the opening round.
Virginia Commonwealth won the Colonial Athletic Association title, beating last year's NCAA darling George Mason.
BA Walker leads the Rams at almost 15 points per game, and his 264 career 3-pointers are the most in school history.
Fans should keep an eye on the scoreboard as well. VCU is 21-1 when scoring at least 70 points.
