Ocean Isle Beach Plans Memorial for Fire Victims

Ocean Isle Beach will unveil a memorial and host a service for the seven South Carolina college students who died in a fire there last October. Located at the foot of the Odell Williamson Bridge, the memorial consists of a cross and a granite stone inscribed with the victims’ names, the date of the fire, and "Friends together forever." There will be a private reception for the victims’ families this Friday at 2pm at the Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department, followed by a memorial service at the foot of the bridge, where the tribute will be unveiled. The area closest to the memorial will be cordoned off for the families, but a special area will be set aside for media and those wishing to pay their respects. The beach house fire occurred in October of last year, and claimed the lives of seven college students staying there. Six of the victims were students at the University of South Carolina, and one was a student at Clemson University.
