RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – This winter’s storms are costing North
Carolina money in addition to lost work and school time.

Gov. Beverly Perdue told reporters Tuesday at a Department of
Transportation maintenance yard in Raleigh the state already has
spent about $26 million of the $30 million set aside this fiscal
year for storm-related recovery activities. There’s been three
major storms that have blanketed North Carolina since Dec. 1.
Perdue said she would tap into emergency funds if the $30 million
is exhausted.

Perdue said DOT crews are doing a good job clearing major roads.
She urged motorists everywhere the storm has touched to go home
early or stay at home because wet and slushy roads were expected to
refreeze overnight.
