NC House to vote on bill tapping reserve funds

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The first budget-balancing decision facing North Carolina lawmakers could tell Gov. Beverly Perdue to find at least $400 million in savings by the end of June off a $19 billion spending plan.

The bill headed for one more required vote Thursday also collects nearly $140 million from more than a dozen funds, including $75 million from three economic development funds.

The measure goes to Perdue’s desk for her signature if it’s approved by the House.

The governor has opposed her loss of economic incentive money but hasn’t said whether she’d veto the measure.

Perdue’s office didn’t return phone calls or e-mails Wednesday seeking comment on the bill.
