WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Birthdays are fun. Birthdays are fun for everyone! There are lots of ways to celebrate… and everyone loves a birthday parade!

Students at St. Mark Catholic School celebrated the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel today… a man more commonly known as Dr. Seuss.

The cartoon legend was born March 2, 1904, and would have celebrated his 107th birthday on Wednesday.

Kindergarteners dressed up as Seuss characters and paraded in front of the school.

“They’re like really cute and stuff, and we come out here, and we have a parade, and they through candy, and they dress up, and it’s really fun. ‘What’s your favorite part about it?’ The candy, but also to see the different outfits and the little kids ’cause they have a lot of fun doing it too,” said eighth grader Maddie Buren.

The kids celebrate Seuss’ birthday every year in order to celebrate reading to children. Teachers let the kindergarteners put on the parade to put the little ones in the spotlight.
