Groups want info on concert dustup at Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) — Two civil liberties groups are asking the Army for information on Fort Bragg’s handling of a Christian concert last fall and a secular-themed event that was canceled by organizers.

The North Carolina chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State sent a letter Friday to Secretary of the Army John McHugh.

Organizers of the secular event say they canceled their concert because Bragg leadership wouldn’t provide them with the same support the Christian organizers had.

Katy Parker, legal director of the state ACLU chapter, says the organization is concerned about the military’s role in both events.

Bragg leaders have said they treated the secular concert exactly the same as they did the Christian event.
