CHAPEL HILL,NC (WWAY) – UNC–Duke is special in any sport, there was a little extra on the line for a couple of former Wilmington high school stars on Friday. New Hanover alum Jordan Betts and Hoggard alum Jeff Bouton are both freshman baseball players in the ACC. They’re friends off the field, but they’re facing each other as opponents in the three game series between Duke and UNC.

UNC beat Duke 8-5 on Friday. Click on play video to see a report from WWAY’s Jesse Jones on the Wilmington connection at Friday’s UNC-Duke baseball game.

Jordan Betts and Jeff Bouton will also be featured on Sunday Coach’s Corner on WWAY at 6pm. The video is not the same version that’s on this website. Sunday’s Coach’s Corner will also feature Wilmington’s Zion Kinlaw. He “caught” the first pitch at Saturday’s UNC-Duke game. Kinlaw underwent brain surgery last October. He asked to walk on the baseball field at UNC’s Boshamer Stadium prior to his surgery. He’s now friends with coaches and players on the UNC team. Zion’s story will be on Sunday’s Coach’s Corner at 6pm.
