WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 58th Annual Azalea Garden Tour is underway, and you don’t want to miss a regular part of the tour.

Known by some as the crown jewel of the Cape Fear, Airlie Gardens attracts thousands to Wilmington each spring to view the beautiful color.

Even after the coldest winter on record, Airlie is coming to life right on schedule. With azaleas, flowering trees and countless bulbs, there’s color in every corner of this 67-acre beauty.

“We have over 100,000 planted in the garden itself,” Airlie Gardens Director Jim McDaniel said. “We have probably close to 500,000 bulbs blooming between tulips and daffodils. It’s just a spectacular place to see spring flowers. We’ve got flowering cherries. We have red buds. It’s just an amazing, amazing place.”

Not only can you spot the beautiful flowers at Airlie, but you’ll also find plenty of wildlife in the lakes along the walking trails.

If you miss out on the garden tour, you can head over to Airlie anytime. The county-owned property is open seven days a week.
