WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY)– Tonight’s Wilmington Hammerheads season opener against Rochester at Legion Stadium in Wilmington has been postponed. The game has been re-scheduled for Sunday at 2pm. Below is a release from the Hammerheads organization.


Wilmington, NC – Wilmington’s City Manager made the executive decision Saturday night to cancel the Hammerhead’s season opener against the Rochester Rhinos due to severe thunderstorms in the area.

The threat of severe weather was imminent all day in Wilmington. Calling the game was a tough decision for both parties involved, but the safety of players and fans is of utmost importance to the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Hammerheads.

Saturday night’s game between the Hammerheads and the Rhinos has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 17. Kickoff will be at 2:00pm.

The Hammerheads would like to thank all the fans who came out Saturday night despite the threatening weather and encourage fans to come back out for the rescheduled match on Sunday.
