BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Law enforcement leaders, including the sheriff and most of the police chiefs in Brunswick County, have signed a letter requesting Judge Jerry Jolly rescind an injunction against the county participating in the StreetSafe program.

Jolly contends District Attorney Jon David is “running a scheme” placing drivers into the program because the local director gave David’s campaign a few hundred dollars.

The police chiefs say the judicial order will have a negative impact on officers, tying them up in court more and keeping them off the streets. They also say Judge Jolly did not seek their input, and they fully support David and the program.

Jon David released a statement today, saying, “The negative effects of this order are far reaching. Judge Jolly’s decision effects many in the criminal justice system including and especially law enforcement. I do not wish to make another public comment about this until I speak with Judge Jolly.”
