COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Tabor City Police say they found a man lying in the middle of the road early Friday morning. That man was Stacey Scott. Scott says former Sen. R.C. Soles attacked him with a metal pipe, held a gun to his head, and threatened to kill him if he told anyone about what happened. This did not keep Scott from telling his side of the story.

“I don’t feel safe,” Stacey Scott said. “He told me he could make me disappear.”

Scott says he fears for his life after what he says former Sen. R. C. Soles told him Friday morning.

“He said, ‘you know I can make you disappear? It’s very easy, I can make you disappear.’ I said, ‘Is that a threat?’,” Scott said. “He pulled his pistol out and crammed it in the side of my face and said ‘I’ll blow your (expletive deleted) brains out right here.’”

Scott says the whole thing started when he went to Soles’ property Thursday night.

“I went to Mr. Soles’ home around 6:30 in the evening,” Scott said. “He was not there. He always told me not to go to his home but if it’s really important, to go. So, I went around to his back deck and just sat there and waited on him. Around 10:30 he shows up.”

Scott says he desperately needed to speak to Soles about his wife’s court case and he wanted to ask the former senator for recommendations for potential jobs. He says Soles was not excited to see him when he got home.

“When he sees me sitting on the back deck, he immediately starts hitting me a metal pipe,” Scott said. “He knocked me into the grass, told me to leave. He maced me, I told him I’m leaving.”

Scott says after Soles hit him repeatedly with the metal pipe, he told him to get in the car. He says Soles then drove him down the road and threatened his life if he told anyone.

“He said ‘what just happened?’ I said ‘you beat the hell out of me’,” Scott said. “He slapped me and said ‘what just happened?’ I said, ‘nothing happened.’”

Scott says although he was threatened, he is not afraid of Soles.

“God says ‘Fear no man,” Scott said. “He says, ‘the one that will kill thy flesh but the one that will kill both thy flesh and thy soul.’”

Scott says he hopes Soles is arrested but he does not think there is enough evidence to prove anything really happened.

“I don’t believe there is enough proof,” Scott said. “He has surveillance systems. They are so good, the U.S. Army can’t get to his front door without him knowing but he’s probably deleted all that already.”

Scott says he does not expect everyone to believe him, but he says he knows the truth.

“I don’t want you to believe me,” Scott said. “I know some people will believe me.”

Scott said he spent five hours with the Tabor City Police as well as the Columbus County District Attorney Friday discussing the incident. Tabor City Police say they have turned over the case to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and they expect to continue the investigation after the holiday.

  • Everything comes with price. I know I paid it once. Still paying for it while “IT” walks free. I never had so much as a speeding ticket but I had to use RC once for a non criminal case. Generous then no-generous now No everything has a price.Just be thankful that there is only one of them for now. There used to be more but Columbus County is down to one now. This only shows the world that nothing is illegal until you get caught.
