WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) — Hoggard guard Lawson Ahrens signed with Brunswick Community College on Sunday. Ahrens also considered Anderson, Coker and Methodist College. Brunswick Community College won the Region X title in 2010. That’s when the Dolphins represented our region in the national junior college men’s basketball tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. Walter Shaw is the BCC head coach. The letter of intent is not official yet. It will become official on Monday when the Brunswick Community College president signs the letter of intent. I’m excited about playing at the next level for a successful local program, Ahrens said after the signing. “I plan on working extremely hard and exceeding coach Shaw’s expectations.”

Ahrens was awarded the George Rountree, III Scholarship for 2011. In conjunction with the Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament, The George Rountree, III Achievement Award is presented to a student athlete at each of the four high schools in New Hanover County. This award is given to high school athletes who integrate the values of citizenship, discipline, loyalty, teamwork, and good moral character into their everyday lives.
