WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man hit by a car on S. College Road earlier this month is still recovering at the hospital.

Cody Khan was visiting friends in Wilmington when he was hit by a car over the Fourth of July weekend. Today his family spoke exclusively with WWAY.

The Khan family gathered from across the state at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and they say they’re waiting for Cody.

Earlier this month, Cody Khan was hit by a car. Since the accident, life for his family has not been the same.

“It’s been absolutely devastating,” Cody’s uncle Dean Khan said. “For the last 27, 28 days everybody’s lives have been put on hold, turned upside down. Everyone’s distraught and we just hope and pray that cody will wake up and come back to us.”

Dean says the 21-year-old has been in a coma since the accident. Now, Dean says Cody is battling a serious case of pneumonia and brain swelling.

“There is no communication with him. None whatsoever,” Dean said. “But he is stable, so we’re hopeful and praying every day.”

Dean says his nephew, a student at UNC Pembroke, is very hardworking, dedicated and driven. He says he knows when Cody does wake up, he has a bright future ahead of him.
For now though, the family waits.

“We’re waiting on Cody,” Dean said. “Everything has been put on hold. We’re gonna wait for Cody, so we’ll be beside him until he wakes up.”

Cody’s family asks the community to continue to pray, and they hope to hear good news soon.

Erica Kane was charged with felony hit and run in the crash that injured Khan. She is due in court tomorrow.
