Man shot downtown off Wright Street


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wednesday night police responded to a call on Wright Street in downtown Wilmington, and a shooting happened at that scene after they left.

Around 9:30 p.m. officers arrived at 509 Wright Street in response to a stolen vehicle call. Investigators say that no less than five minutes after they left there was a shooting at the house.

According to Wilmington Police a young, black male in his 20s broke into the back of the home, where he got into a scuffle with the man who reported the stolen vehicle. That man was then shot in the arm. Police say that man is OK and was taken by his wife to the hospital.

Police are looking for a white, 2001 Chevy Silverado in connection with the shooting.

No names have been released at this time.
