WILMINGTON,NC (UNCW news release) — With its preseason adventure in the Bahamas less than two weeks away, the UNCW men’s basketball team conducts the first of 10 days of practice this Saturday before embarking on the Caribbean journey.

Peterson and the Seahawks are scheduled to leave Tuesday, Aug. 16, for the tropical islands. The team will be in the Bahamas for five days and returns on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Extensive renovation to Trask Coliseum will find the Seahawks going through drills at nearby Cape Fear Academy, which recently opened a new 43,000-square foot basketball facility just four miles from the UNCW campus.

“We’d like to thank Athletic Director Chris Meehl and Cape Fear Academy for allowing us to practice at their beautiful facility,” said Peterson. “It will be exciting because it’s the first opportunity for us to get the guys together. We have a lot of new faces this year and this extra time on the court will be very beneficial for the coaching staff and players.”

All of UNCW’s practices at Cape Fear Academy will be closed to the public.

The Seahawks are scheduled to play two games in the Caribbean, battling the Bahamas Cybots on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 9 p.m. and the Bahamas All-Stars on Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m.

Fans can keep updated on the progress of the Seahawks in the Bahamas by visiting UNCWsports.com. Assistant Coach Jamie Kachmarik will be providing a unique look at the team’s trip with a daily blog and photos in his “Postcard From The Bahamas” installments on the athletics website.
