WILMINGTON,NC (Sharks news release ) — The Wilmington Sharks (9-5) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and hardly looked back from there, defeating the Petersburg Generals (6-6) by a final score of 5-2 at Buck Hardee Field.

Petersburg’s J.T. Wauford (0-2) walked the first two batters of the game, with leadoff man Cole McInturff later scoring. Lloyd Enzor would also score the first of his two runs in the game in the opening frame.

The hosts gave both runs back in the top of the second, with Sharks starter Tim Keller (1-0) working through the only real trouble he faced through his five innings of work. In all, he surrendered just the two runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout. Petersburg’s first two batters of the second reached and scored, with Matt Winn being left on third at the end of the inning.

In the home half of the second, it was again the first two batters who reached on singles. Alex Freedman followed them immediately with a double that scored both runners, giving Wilmington a 4-2 lead.

Lloyd Enzor would finish the scoring for the game, sneaking a ball over the left field fence in the seventh inning. It was his second long ball of the year after also losing a ball at Morehead City on Tuesday night.

The Edenton Steamers will be at Buck Hardee Field for a doubleheader starting at 6:00 on Thursday, before the Sharks take off on a three game road trip over the weekend. For more on the Sharks, visit wilmingtonsharks.com, find Sharky Sharks on Facebook and follow @ILMSharks on Twitter.
