Rouzer takes aim at McIntyre during RNC speech

TAMPA, FL (WWAY) — All political eyes are on Tampa, FL, where the Republican National Convention is underway.

Tuesday afternoon, the man who hopes to unseat Rep. Mike McIntyre in North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District took to the podium. Sen. David Rouzer had less than two minutes for his speech, and he wasted little time making deep cuts at his opponent.

“We can’t afford to re-elect someone who believes that our dismal economy is doing just fine,” Rouzer said referring to a recent speech by President Obama. “And in North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, we can’t afford to re-elect Mike McIntyre, a man who voted four times to make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker.”

The senator’s jabs against McIntyre didn’t stop there.

“We can’t afford to re-elect a man like Mike McIntyre who said about Obama’s failed stimulus, ‘In our part of the country, it has worked,'” Rouzer said.

McIntyre’s campaign released a statement in response to Rouzer’s speech.

“As a former DC lobbyist, David Rouzer is determined to use his training to distort and manipulate. Rouzer knows good and well that Mike McIntyre is an independent voice for Eastern North Carolina. Rouzer’s rhetoric is the kind of contrived distortion one would expect from a big money lobbyist,” McIntyre’s camp said.

Rouzer fired back during an interview live from the RNC on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5:30.

“He can’t run from his record,” Rouzer said. “When Nancy Pelosi was Speaker, Mike McIntyre voted more than 90 percent of the time with her. One very great distinction in this race is when elected to Congress, my first vote will be for John Boehner.”
