NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — On Sept. 9, three branches of the New Hanover County Public Library will be open on Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m.: Main Library, Northeast and Myrtle Grove. Kicking off the new hours, the Friends of the Library will greet visitors and serve refreshments from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Sunday hours were limited to the Main Library until the spring of 2009, when the Library eliminated Sunday hours, as part of an effort to reduce the Library’s operating budget by 10 percent as requested by New Hanover County, the library’s primary funding agency.

“Sunday’s were always busy at Main Library, and we’ve had many requests to open other locations as well,” says Library Director Harry Tuchmayer. “Customer service is a high priority to New Hanover County and at the library, so we’re all delighted that our current budget allows us to make using the library more convenient for more people!”

In addition, weekday hours of operation has been expanded at the Carolina Beach Library from half days to full days – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (Carolina Beach Library will not be open on Sunday).
