New NC lab, medical examiner’s office to open


    RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue is scheduled to cut the ribbon on a new facility to house the State Laboratory of Public Health and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

    Perdue will join state Health and Human Services Secretary Al Delia at the ceremony at 2 p.m. Monday are to officially open the $52 million building, which is located off Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh.

    Officials say the new facility is state of the art and is designed to meet or exceed national standards for bioterrorism and hazardous chemical response.

    Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Deborah Radisch will be on hand to provide a sneak peek inside the state’s new autopsy suite.
