Democrats begin bus tour in western NC

ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — North Carolina politicians are joining national Democrats aboard a familiar political campaign vehicle – the charter bus.

The object is mobilizing supporters of the party and President Barack Obama as early voting begins this week.

The Democratic National Committee and Obama for America planned to kick off its “Gotta Vote” bus tour Tuesday morning at Obama campaign headquarters in Asheville. The tour was expected to reach points east the remainder of the week.

DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congressmen G.K. Butterfield and David Price, and state Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin were expected at the Asheville stop.

The conservative group Americans for Prosperity brings its national “Obama’s Failing Agenda Bus Tour” through western North Carolina on Thursday and eastern North Carolina on Friday.
