SURF CITY, NC (PENDER-TOPSAIL POST & VOICE) — A dime increase on the property tax rate at Surf City will go to putting more sand on the beaches.
At a special meeting on May 6, the Surf City town council approved raising the tax rate by 10 cents per $100 for five years. The town should raise enough revenue in five years to drop back to the current five cents for the beach fund tax.
The Surf City beach rebuilding project is expected to cost $84 million after the federal and state governments contribute funds to complete the project.
