WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police arrested a man they say led them on a foot chase, after allegedly trying to get into two cars in a store parking lot, all over a some shirts and socks.

It all started when a man was spotted stuffing his pants with socks and t-shirts at the CVS on Oleander Drive around 10 a.m. When a worker confronted the man, he forced his way out to the parking lot.

According to a 911 call, the man tried to force his way into a woman’s car and eventually pulled her from her car.

“He’s hitting her,” the caller told an operator. “He’s beating the crap out of this woman in my parking lot, because she won’t take off. The cops are on their way, ma’am. The cops are on their way.”

The caller said the man then ran to another vehicle, forcing the driver out of the car.

That’s when police arrived.

Officers say they chased Tracey Lamont Greene through the parking lot, across Oleander and into the hillcrest community, where they arrested him.

An officer returned the stolen t-shirts and socks to the store.

Greene is charged with larceny and other crimes. Police say he also had several outstanding warrants.
