SALISBURY, NC (AP) — North Carolina authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from a state prison in Salisbury.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety says Jonathan Dixon was discovered to be missing about 4 a.m. Monday from a minimum-security unit at Piedmont Correctional Institution. Authorities did not say how he managed to escape the 952-bed prison.
The 27-year-old Dixon was serving a maximum of 7 years for multiple counts of breaking and entering, among other charges. He was due for release in June 2017.
Officials say Dixon has family and friends living in and near Pitt County and may try to travel to that area. Anyone who has seen Dixon or has knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or Piedmont Correctional Institution at (704) 639-7540.
