WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local restaurant wants to take its idea national.

The Shuckin’ Shack is looking to take a model that’s been successful on Pleasure Island and in downtown Wilmington and sell it to other entrepreneurs.

In 2007, Carolina Beach became home to the first Shuckin’ Shack, and just two years ago they opened a second location in downtown Wilmington.

“Initially it’s a small investment. It’s low overhead. It’s a great fun place to roll up your sleeves, eat some seafood, drink some beers and meet a great friend,” Shuckin’ Shack co-founder Sean Cook said.

The Carolina Beach-based restaurant is following in the footsteps of other local businesses, like Port City Java and The Fuzzy Peach, by working with franchising director Greg George.

The restaurant has already been nationally recognized. “Coastal Living” magazine included Shuckin’ Shack on a list of 22 favorite seafood dives.

Owners say they’re going to first island hop up and down the Carolina coast before going national. Shuckin’ Shack says Southport and Ogden will be among the first areas to see this expansion.
