New Hanover grad wraps up collegiate swimming career at the NCAA’s

CHAPEL HILL, NC (WWAY) — “Last month’s ACC Championship is in the rear view mirror for Cari Blalock. The New Hanover graduate is more than happy to reflect on her individual performance, and her team’s 2nd place finish at the ACC. “We broke 8 out of 16 school records,” Blalock said. “We broke all our relay records.. It was a phenomenal thing to watch. I was really excited for myself because I wanted to go out with a bang in my last season and I kinda feel like I did that at the ACC’s.”

At the ACC Championships Blalock won the 400 IM. She finisehd in 2nd in the 200 butterfly. For her, and several of her UNC Tar Heel teammates the next stop is Minneapolis, the site of the the NCAA Championship. The goal for the team is a top ten finish. For Cari it’s “to go faster. I just always want to go faster. My coaches tell me that I still have a lot in me, they say Cari what are you gonna do? Are you gonna keep swimming after the NCAA’s? I kinda look at them and say, ah…and they’re like you have so much more left in you, and I’m like if I have so much more left in me, then I’ll leave it all in the pool in Minneapolis. I just want to go faster. I want to be an All-American again and see what happens.”
