RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina legislators have been meeting formally for two days and they’re already moving a wide-ranging finance bill that would curb the ability of towns and cities to tax businesses and place a new tax on electronic cigarettes.

The House Finance Committee voted Thursday in favor of a measure that draws together tax changes in at least 15 areas. They were discussed by a study panel over the past several months before Wednesday’s opening of the General Assembly. The bill should come to the full House next week.

The bill makes slight adjustments to the 2013 tax overhaul law and caps business privilege taxes assessed by municipalities at $100 per year. The e-cigarette tax remained in the bill after the committee deadlocked on whether to remove it.
