WPD: Would-be armed robbers scared off by pit bull

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say two would-be robbers caught following another car to a Wilmington home were scared off by the resident’s pit bull.

Wilmington Police say around 8:15 p.m. Friday, the woman being trailed by the duo told officers she was pulling into her friend’s house in the 600 block of Harnett Street when her friend asked who was in the gold car behind her.

Officers say when the woman told her friend she did not know the vehicle following her, the car left and circled around the block before parking on Love’s Alley, which is across the street from the house. Police say the two men got out of the car and started to walk towards the woman.

Police say one of the suspects then lifted up his shirt, showing a gun in his waist, saying, “Where is the money?” That’s when they say the friend came out of the house with his dog, scaring off the duo.

There’s no word on suspect information, but WPD says officers are still investigating.
