Buncombe inmate’s apparent suicide investigated


    ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — Authorities are investigating after an inmate charged with slaying his mother and stepfather apparently committed suicide at the Buncombe County Detention Facility.

    A news release from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office says that officers discovered 26-year-old Vincent Thomas Wesley Franklin attempting suicide around 12:10 a.m.

    Officers attempted CPR and County EMS personnel came to scene and continued efforts, but they were unsuccessful.

    Authorities declined to say how the apparent suicide was carried out.

    Franklin was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his mother and stepfather, and he was a suspect in the death of a woman with whom he’d had a child.
