The Seahawks surged out to an 11-4 lead in the opening six minutes of the game as junior guard Shatia Cole (Myrtle Beach H.S./Myrtle Beach, S.C.) scored four points to lead the charge.

After the Cougars trimmed the margin to 17-12 with 8:41 remaining in the opening stanza, the Seahawks scored seven consecutive points to extend the lead to 24-12 on a Teague lay-up with 7:12 left.

The Cougars narrowed the gap to seven points with 1:19 remaining on a pair of free throws by sophomore Breanna Bolden (South River H.S./Edgewater, Md.) before the teams traded field goals to give UNCW a 32-25 advantage at the intermission.

In the first six minutes of the second half, the Cougars put together an 8-4 spurt to close the gap to 36-33 on a lay-up by freshman guard Shiclasia Brown (Nazareth Regional H.S./Corona, N.Y.), but Charleston was unable to get any closer as the Seahawks continued to build their advantage.

One of three UNCW players to score in double figures, Atkins tallied a game-high 21 points, including 12 in the first half. She also added six assists with three steals. Meanwhile, Teague nearly recorded a “double double” by scoring 14 points with nine rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore guard Brie Mobley (Winter Haven H.S./Winter Haven, Fla.) came off the bench to score 16 points, marking her seventh double-digit scoring effort in the last eight games. She made 6 of 14 shots from the floor and also added five rebounds.

Bolden scored a team-high 15 points with a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Cougars while senior guards Erin Hall (Wake Forest H.S./Norcross, Ga.) and Christy Hewatt (Forsyth Central H.S./Cumming, Ga.) each added 10 points in the loss.

The Seahawks will begin a three-game road trip on Sunday, Jan. 11 when they visit Drexel University for a 2:00 p.m. CAA match-up at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
