PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Troopers are still investigating a deadly crash on I-40 after they say a tractor-trailor and car collided, leaving one woman dead and a toddler hurt.
Highway Patrol says it happened just after 6:30 a.m. near the Pender-Duplin County line. That’s where troopers say a Pepsi tractor-trailer began slowing for icy spots on the interstate when another car lost control.
Troopers say the car, driven by Mindy Burnett, 19, of Greenville, then slammed into the back of the Pepsi truck on her driver’s side.
They say Burnett was pronounced dead at the scene, and her toddler who was a passenger in the car was taken to the hospital for injuries. According to the toddler’s father, the little boy is doing OK and is being treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
According to her Facebook page, Burnett was a student at Pitt Community College.
