NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (StarNews) — Wilmington and New Hanover County administrators do not want to pursue a full consolidation of the city and county fire departments.
At the behest of the city and county, Emergency Services Consulting International studied both fire departments last year. The firm’s study concluded consolidating the departments into one entity is in the best interest of both the city and the county.
Yet in a recent letter to city council members, City Manager Sterling Cheatham said he and County Manager Chris Coudriet feel “the study did not specifically validate any cost savings or efficiencies that would be gained” as part of a consolidation.
