WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The streets of downtown Wilmington were packed with pink Saturday for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
The event combines a competitive 5k run with a 1 mile fun run/walk and events for the whole family.
This is the 3rd annual and organizers say the crowd gets bigger and the fight for breast cancer gets stronger.
Participant Samantha Blair says, “I’m here to have fun and to do it for a good cause. I’m supporting all the people who have breast cancer and my cousin is a breast cancer survivor so I’m running for her as well.”
75% of money raised at the event will go toward breast cancer research in our community.
According to Cancer.org, 1 and 8 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and about 40,00 women will die from breast cancer in 2015.
