NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County man pleaded guilty to kidnapping, attempted rape and assault charges.
Craig Gore, 40, was sentenced to nine years in prison following the plea on March 6; after his sentence, Gore will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
The incident happened at the Carolina Beach State Park over the 4th of July weekend in 2013. The victim, his wife, suffered substantial injuries from the assault. Gore has prior convictions of assault on a female and has also been convicted of interfering with emergency communication.
Prosecutors say they fought alongside victim’s rights advocates to repeal the marital rape exemption
that would have prevented holding a man like Gore responsible for the rape.
