CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of volunteers tackled a big Work on Wilmington project Saturday at Carolina Beach State Park.
The goal was to construct an oyster reef in the Cape Fear River. More than 300 GE Hitachi employees moved 1,400 bags of limestone marl and 2,000 bags of oyster shells to get the work done.
Organizers say more 40 tons of bags were moved and placed along 200 linear feet of shore in the river.
This work was done in partnership with the NC Coastal Federation.
