Search warrants describe student, TA relationship

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– Newly released search warrants reveal how an alleged relationship developed between a former Ashley High School teaching assistant and a 17-year-old female student.

In the search warrant a detective with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office describes an interview with a 17 year year old girl about a sexual encounter with a teaching assistant after night downtown.

In the search warrant the Ashley High school Student says Rebecca Morgan was her senior project adviser. The student says they e-mailed and texted each other.

Then the student says one night she walked into Morgan at the Ibiza night club downtown. The student says they talked until 1 or 2 a.m. The student says she asked Morgan to go home with her. She  says Morgan told her it was not a good idea, but the student continued to ask. Then she says they took a cab back to Morgan’s house.

The student says she had sex with Morgan that night.

When asked, the student was able to describe a tattoo on Morgan’s leg and items in Morgan’s bedroom to match items seized during the search. The student describes a tattoo on Morgan’s right thigh that she says is 5 to 6 inches below Morgan’s waist of a female kneeling with records going around the female.

We reached out to Morgan for comment, but she did not answer.

The school district has not confirmed this is the reason Morgan was fired last week.

The sheriff’s office is investigating, but no charges have been filed.
Morgan could face indecent liberties with a student, but a spokesman at the sheriff’s office says at this point they have no physical evidence to prove that.
