Topsail pitcher Clark Cota to shut it down

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Topsail High School standout and UNCW baseball signee Clark Cota will not pitch any more this season for the Pirates.

As a junior Cota led Topsail to the 3-A state championship.

Cota has not pitched recently, but he’s still been hitting. The reason is he plans to undergo Tommy John surgery soon.

The Pirates had a bye in the first round of the Mideastern Conference baseball tournament. Topsail will play West Brunswick Tuesday in the second round.

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — Trask secured the Four County Conference softball title on Monday with a 12-2 win over East Bladen. Trask is now 12-0 in conference play, 16-3 overall. **Click icon for video

ROCKY POINT, NC (TRASK RELEASE) — On a 3 game win streak this season is the Trask women’s soccer team with their shoot out win over visiting East Bladen tonight in Titantown. The Lady Titans scored first in the 28th minute behind the foot of freshman Mayra Cruz. After allowing 2 goals by the visitors late in the second half, Trask’s Edith Mendoza scored on a direct in minute 87, tying the score at 2-2. After a scoreless overtime, both teams lined up for PKs with the home team FINALLY winning a shootout 3-2 with senior, Ana Martinez’s winning kick sealing the victory for her team. Now 1-3 in shoot outs this season (having outplayed both of those 1A opponents), it was great to finally get a shoot out victory.  The Titans are 4-8 in conference this season after a 6-5 PK shootout win over East Bladen. **Click icon for video.

The Titans travel to Midway tomorrow for a 6pm game and return home for senior night on Thursday vs. county rival Pender, also at 6pm
