St. Mark Episcopal Church holds prayer vigil for Charleston after mass shooting


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington is showing its support for the Charleston community affected by a fatal shooting at a church this week.

Saint Mark Episcopal Church held a prayer vigil for the victims and the shooter Friday night.

Senior Warden Bernardine Fulton says they are mourning and supporting that community.
she says they want to reach out to the community about gun violence.

“We’re trying to get more awareness within our community as to how we can do things in a different way and agree to disagree rather than always have to result to violence,” Fulton says.

Fulton says they are working on projects to get out in the community to have an open dialogue about violence.

The mass shooting in a historically black church in Charleston left 9 dead. The man accused had his first court hearing Friday.
