WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners approved a budget today, one that includes a 2 cent property tax increase. Not everyone was happy about it though, in fact one commissioner took to twitter to vent his frustration. The twitter reaction from Commissioner Woody White came not after the meeting but in the middle of the meeting.
Commissioners approved the budget by a vote of 3 to 2, with Republicans White and Skip Watkins voting no, but Beth Dawson, also a republican, voted yes.
For months White has led the charge to eliminate any tax increase from the new budget. That increase will largely go to pay for voter approved bonds.
On Twitter white expressed his frustration with Dawson saying:
Comm Dawson votes with the Democrats: more welfare, more taxes.

Dawson was less than pleased.
“First time I’ve seen this. That’s quite unusual for a fellow commissioner, a professional colleague, to do for another. I cannot possibly explain that inappropriate behavior,” Dawson responded.
She said her vote was for a responsible and prudent budget. As for voting across the aisle she says she represents all the citizens of New Hanover County.
We asked White if he thought taking to Twitter was the right way to go about venting his frustration.
“I think it is important to let people know that there are differences in conservatives and those that don’t vote conservatively. That talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk,” said White, who signed a pledge when running for congress never to raise taxes.
Dawson told us she’d like to neve have to raise taxes but this budget was in the best interest of all of her constituents.
“One commissioner does not decide a budget. It takes all of us giving and taking and coming to consensus to represent our community,” said Dawson.
