WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There are some big changes in store for Wave Transit. Starting Monday a new facility on Castle Hayne Rd. will be fully operational.
That facility will also be home to the first compressed natural gas buses in the state. So far the Wave Transit fleet has 2 of the CNG buses, but by January they will be adding 4 more of them for public use.
“We believe that we can bring compressed natural gas as a fuel in for less than a dollar a gallon equivalent. Diesel is about $2.10 right now. So the more vehicles that we get in here, the more we’ll be able to save, the cleaner we’ll be able to keep the air. So we’re really excited about Monday,” said Executive Director Albert Eby.
The new facility also includes a fully automated washing station for the buses, as well as a fitness center and medical office for Wave Transit employees. There are even training rooms that can be rented out to organizations throughout the community.
