CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Former UNCW basketball standout Keith Rendleman will suit up for the Charlotte Hornets in the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League this weekend. Rendleman graduated from UNCW in 2013. He’s played professional basketball overseas the last two seasons. Coincidental or not? Former UNCW head basketball coach Buzz Peterson works for the Charlotte Hornets. The Peterson connection certainly helped.
Keith Rendleman now just needs to make the most of the opportunity. “A lot of my friends and family, and all my fans from Wilmington have been blowing me up, congratulating me on this opportunity,” Rendleman said on Thursday in Charlotte. “When I came out of college everyone was wondering if I would have this opportunity and now I am finally getting my chance. It’s been a nice ride so far, but I can’t let it get to my head just yet.” What surprises you the most about what you have seen out here? “Just the talent, everyone is out here ready to compete and I knew the talent was going to be high. It’s more than what I am used to playing with. These are all NBA prospects. Everyone is out here to get their fair shots.”
