WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man charged in the hit-and-run death of a Wilmington woman made his first appearance today. Andrew Washick went before a judge. Originally out on an unsecured bond the judge put Washick back in jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
Washick is accused of hitting Caroline Weis, 44, Friday night at the corner of South College Road and Cedar Avenue. In court prosecutors said Washick drove back to Raleigh after the accident happened with enough damage to his car to know he’d hit something.
Washick’s attorney argued the young man was no longer a flight risk because he eventually surrendered himself to authorities.
