Former West Columbus standout E.J. Jenkins added to Hickory Crawdads roster


CERRO GORDO, NC (WWAY) — Recent West Columbus graduate E.J. Jenkins concluded his Arizona Summer League season over the weekend. With the conclusion of his rookie league season Jenkins received a call-up to the Single A Hickory Crawdads. Jenkins is expected to be in uniform for the Crawdads on Wednesday night when they face Delmarva in a South Atlantic League contest. The regular season will end for Hickory on September 7. *UPDATE: E.J. Jenkins played on Wednesday for Hickory. He was 1 for 2 at the plate. He entered in the middle of the game as a pinch hitter.

Hickory is the Single A baseball club for the Texas Rangers. E.J. Jenkins was drafted in round two of the Major League Draft in June by the Texas Rangers. The former West Columbus baseball outfielder signed with UNC Wilmington several months ago, but he chose to play professional baseball instead. Jenkins received a lucrative $2,000,000 signing bonus from the Rangers.
