Teacher of the Week: Cynthia Maddox

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — School is back in session! As students and teachers start another academic year, we introduce to some of the most talented and influential teachers the Cape Fear region has to offer in Teacher of the Week.

This week we head to Codington Elementary School to meet first grade teacher Cynthia Maddox and her “Amazing Apples.”

Each year Maddox cultivates an orchard. To help her apples grow, she feeds them with engaging opportunities.

“I do love to have the hands on approach. Everything is manipulatives and very lifelike,” she said.

Maddox also showers her students with affection, especially on the days that start off a little cloudy.

“When they need to have their feelings and emotions taken care of, I can do that with big hugs and just ensure they are going to have a good day,” Maddox said lovingly.

Once the day is full of sunshine she patiently waits for her first graders to absorb the nutrients they need to develop their skills.

“They’re little sponges. You just fill their curiosities and they are right there to respond,” she said.

As these Amazing Apples start their growing season we wanted to reward their amazing teacher for all of her dedication and hard work and make her our Teacher of the Week.
