WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Rep. David Rouzer (R-7th District) hosted a back-to-school safety fair at Hoggard High School Saturday focused on safety and awareness for parents and students.
His goal was to provide a fun opportunity for children to interact with public safety officials.
Rouzer said because of several events that have happened recently he felt it was important for community members to meet first responders.
“I think a big part of the problem too is that in so many cases that we have taken God out of the public square,” Rouzer said. “We live in a spiritual world whether or not we want to admit it. When good recedes, evil prevails.”
Kids were able to talk with police officers and firefighters about their jobs.
Some were able to check out a fire truck and learn what to do in case of an emergency.
