LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A family in the Leland area is still living in a hotel following the storm that brought historic rainfall to parts of the Carolinas.
Latonya Myers and her husband Ronald said their home on Mount Misery Road was flooded due to the storm, and it’s a total loss. They said the flooding caused their septic tank to back up, which caused sewage to spill into their home.
“Through the floor, it was bad, it smelled real bad,” said Ronald Myers.
The Myers said they did not get flood insurance because they were told they were not in a flood zone.
“We were just devastated that this keeps happening and we are hoping that we can get back in our home soon,” said Latonya Myers.
Latonya is encouraging people to consider getting flood insurance just in case something like this happens.
