HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: First basketball practice of season at Laney

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Monday marked the first day of official practice for all winter sports for high school in North Carolina. We stopped by Laney to check out the latest basketball news in Buctown. Things are going great for Laney boys basketball head coach Nathan Faulk. “On paper we are deep,” Nathan Faulk said. “We have depth. We have experience. We have guys with multiple skill levels at different positions, it’s exciting.”

It’s not quite as rosy for Laney girls head coach Sherri Tynes. Her starting point guard, Jenson Edwards, will likely miss the entire season. “The first day of practice is always exciting,” per Sherri Tynes. “You never know who is going to show up. Sometimes you get a surprise out here that you did not know about. It’s exciting to get the first couple of days under your belt to see what you have and where you need to go. Unfortunately Jenson Edwards(starting point guard) is going to be out this year. She tore her ACL a few weeks ago. She will be out 4 to 6 months.”
